Scootering In Selby

Selby Moving Targets were formed in May 2004 but we were not the first scooter club in Selby, not by a long chalk.

The fifties and sixties

As far as we know there were no scooter clubs in Selby in the 50s. Most Selby scooterists would have probably joined clubs in Goole, York or possibly Tadcaster.
Goole had a Vespa club, the Royalists and York had a Vespa club, a Lambretta Club, a Vintage Lambretta club and a BSA/Triumph scooter club. By the late 60s a group of lads had formed the Selby Zodiacs SC which lasted til around 1972. There was a similar group out at Hemingborough, the "00" Gang with their distinctive black and yellow numbered helmets 001, 002 etc

The seventies

By the early seventies scootering in Selby really began to take off. In 1975 the Selby Okehs formed and later the Selby Top Rank. The current club contains quite a few members of the legendary Selby Zodiacs, Hemingborough "00"s, Okehs and Top Rank Scooter clubs. What follows is based on their recollections.
